Spanish I

This first level is an introduction to language and culture through the development of proficiency in the skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Spanish II

The second level is an expansion of Level I, continuing with a more complex study of the content and structure of the language and a higher level of linguistic competency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing.  Cultural studies are continued.

Prerequisite:  Spanish I

Spanish III

The third level continues to stress language skills for understanding and proficiency.  Cultural studies are an integral part of the course.  Studies are prepared for the NYS Comprehensive Regents Language Examination.

Prerequisite:  Spanish II

Latin I

This course exposes students to Roman culture and language, stressing both the fluent reading and speaking of the language.  In addition, Latin I will emphasize the composition of Latin discourse.  Students are expected to master the basic grammatical rules of declension and conjugation appropriate for an introductory Latin course.  Finally, students can expect to engage some of the classic Latin works of Vergil and Cicero. (Midterm and Final Examination)

Health 

This course is required for every student.  It is designed to offer the student an understanding of the inter-relatedness of spirit, mind, body, and emotions and how these affect one’s well being. 

Introducing the World of Education

This course will introduce students to the challenging but wonderful world of teaching. 

As this elective course is writing and reading intensive as well as practical, its curriculum adheres to the Core Curriculum standards set forth by New York State Department of Education (NYSED) as educators seek to assure that our students are College and Career Ready.  Students will have the opportunity not only to delve into the educational resources available from established educators but also to observe teachers in the classroom.  Students can also expect to student teach in the class or classes of their choice under the supervision of the assigned instructor.

At the end of the course, students will submit a portfolio that includes but is not limited to a statement of professional goals, a personal philosophy of education statement, four case study analyses, and sample lessons.
