AIS is mandatory for students entering the school year who have:
failed one or more classes during the previous school year
failed one or more Regent examinations during the previous school year
earned a 72 or lower in ANY course taken during the previous school year
demonstrated a pattern of missing homework assignments even after the teacher has exhausted all pre-AIS intervention meetings with the student and the student’s parent/guardian
AIS creates, study plans of reinforcement to help students strengthen their foundations in a given course. The student(s) will be subject to:
Official log/journal of study hours with parent signature
Pre-assessment and post-assessment to help measure student progress
Mandatory RETEACH lessons with practice and homework
Mandatory illustrative study using SPECIFIC study methods
Skills Reinforcement exercises (worksheets, computer-based)
Students who earned higher than a 72 in the course or courses for which he/she is enrolled are no longer required to attend AIS.
Some students may be enrolled in AIS for more than one course. Should a student achieve satisfactory academic progress for one course but not another, the student must still attend AIS for the remaining course or courses in which satisfactory academic progress has not been achieved.
Exceptions to this stipulation are assessed and examined at administration’s discretion on a case-by-case basis in accordance with New York State and district regulations as well as documentation of extenuating circumstances.
