ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 6

ELA 6 students will engage a wide variety of literary genres written by authors using the Springboard curriculum. Students will develop skills in close reading, critical writing, speaking, and listening.  Students will also compose informational, expository, argumentative, and persuasive using the Hochman method and Revision Assistant, which helps students revise their work independently. Finally, all ELA 6 students will be responsible for completing independent readings as well as a major synthesis project based on the school year's coursework.

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 7

Students enrolled in ELA 7 will engage a wide variety of literary genres written by authors using the Springboard curriculum as well as relevant and challenging informational and narrative texts. Students will also compose informational, expository, argumentative, and persuasive using the Hochman method and Revision Assistant, which helps students revise their work independently. Finally, all ELA 7 students will read and complete TWO independent reading assignments (fiction or nonfiction books) and their corresponding assessments. 

ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS 8

Students will engage a wide variety of literary genres written by authors using the Springboard ELA program, exploring literary archetypes and using the critical lens of "the hero's journey" to glean meaning from the readings.  Students will compose explanatory, expository, argumentative, and persuasive as well as reflective writing, utilizing the writing process of prewriting, drafting, revising, and editing, as well as the 6 Traits model, to produce polished works. Students should expect PSAT-preparatory work to be interwoven throughout the curriculum as well as independent book projects. Finally, students will utilize learning platforms like Zinc Reading and Revision Assistant to sharpen critical reading and to develop writing skills respectively.
