SURVEY OF WORLD HISTORY

This class introduces World History students to the ancient worlds of Egypt, Greece, and Rome. Students will journey from the early days of the Stone Age up to the present day. Students will learn to practice historical thinking, writing, and reading skills necessary for upper-level history coursework. Furthermore, students will develop their research skills by completing THREE major synthesis projects.

SURVEY OF AMERICAN HISTORY I

In this Next Generation standard-aligned course, seventh-grade students study the first part of United States History, beginning with the roots of Colonial America and continuing through the economic, political, social, intellectual, cultural, and military development of the nation through the Civil War. Students will interpret both primary and secondary documents, answer document-based questions, and strengthen their research and historical writing skills.

SURVEY OF AMERICAN HISTORY II

In this Next Generation-aligned course, eighth graders will study the second part of a complete study of United States History. The course begins with the Reconstruction of the United States after the Civil War and continues through the economic, political, social, intellectual, cultural, and military development of Post-Cold War America. Students will reinforce their interpretive skills using both primary and secondary documents, answer document-based questions, and strengthen their research and historical writing skills. Students will also be introduced to the Socratic Seminar method of discussion to develop and strengthen their critical thinking, reading, and writing skills in preparation for High School-level history coursework.

HISTORICAL INQUIRY

Students will study specific historical events in both world and American History. As the name of the class suggests, students will take on the role of investigator, learning to inquire about (ask questions), research, investigate, and evaluate claims surrounding historical events.  In preparation for high school coursework, this class helps students sharpen Next-Generation historical standards such as geographic and historical context, causation and change over time, contextualization, and evidence analysis. Students will produce special projects occasional to sharpen their digital learning skills
